Bulletin #35 – Silent Auction during RU Fast

Our club, along with all speed skating clubs within Alberta, are receiving information requesting donations of new items and support for a Silent Auction that will be held in Room 54 during the first two days of RU Fast – March 2nd & 3rd, 2012.

Among their responsibilities, Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association’s (AASSA) SDC spearheads fundraising initiatives that benefit ALL speed skaters within Alberta – not just one club. The funds raised will benefit all Alberta skaters and coaches as well as competitions they are involved in. In the past the money has been used to support skaters to Age Class ST & LT competitions, ie travel support, bus rental to Regina Canadian Championship, and AASSA camps.

There are often questions on what types of items are suitable for donation and many of you could initially be reluctant to donate lower monetary value items. Its true big ticket items typically receive larger bids but often attract fewer bidders’ while smaller value items are immensely popular and create higher levels of bidding activity. A successful auction needs a large selection of items at all value points to encourage interest and participation during the event. We want to encourage all our members to contribute auction items and actively participate in bidding at the auction.

Past auction items have included spa products/services, gift cards for dining and accommodation, event tickets, branded clothing/footwear, art/crafts and photography, food products, garden products, books/movies, wines/spirits, electronics, household products/appliances, entertainment coupons, luggage/travel products, and of course speed skating related items. Basically anything that you as a member would consider purchasing would be suitable to donate whether it’s worth $5 or $500+. The important point is for each member to participate to the extent possible by donating and bidding on items during the silent auction!

We encourage you to look for items to donate and email the information on the item(s) to:

Items can be dropped off at the CSSA office from now up to 9 pm on Thursday March 1st evening or by Friday March 2nd at noon to Room 54.

Up to and during the competition please remind your friends to check out the auction items in Room 54 – bidding begins at noon on Friday March 2nd and closes at 4 pm on Saturday March 3rd.

Your support  will help make the RU Fast silent auction a success and ultimately benefit all provincial clubs who host and skaters who attend our competitions.
