Update from CSSA Board of Directors

CSSA Announces New President and additional Board Members for the 2015-2016 Season

The CSSA Board of Directors is extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Lee Deibert to fill the vacant President position until the next annual general meeting of the Club in May 2016. Lee also joins the Board of Directors for the same time period.

Lee was the Member-at-Large of CSSA in 2014/2015 and his son has been skating with the Club since 2010. Skaters and the Club culture are Lee’s biggest motivators for joining as President. Lee is a professional geologist and active in the Calgary business community as a founding partner of an environmental consulting company since 1999.

In addition, the following individuals have also been added to open Board positions for the 2015-2016 Season.

  • Xiuli Wang has been appointed to the Board as the Club’s Member-at-Large. Xiuli has been a Speed Skating Canada National Team Long Track Coach since 2002 and in addition to her Board duties, will assist with the further development of the Clubs skaters and coaches.
  • David Jones has been appointed to the Board as the VC of Competitions in order to assist Belinda Walta with the Club’s competitions. The Club is excited to add David’s many skills and enthusiasm to the Board.

In addition, Jeremy Kozuback has voluntarily resigned his position as Past-President. The CSSA Board of Directors wishes to sincerely thank Jeremy for his contributions to the CSSA during the last year as President and Past-President.

Ice Times During World Cup

Please note that due to the Olympic Oval’s upcoming long track World Cup competition we will have the following closures for CSSA:

North Rink: November 10-15 (First ice session at 6:00pm on Monday, November 16th)
Oval Ice: November 6-16 (First ice session at 5:50pm on Tuesday, November 17th)

 Saturday, July 18th     12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

 The order will be placed on Tuesday, July 21st

 The next Club order of skates will be in September

CSSA Members receive AASSA Awards for season 14-15

Last weekend AASSA presented their End of the Season 14-15 Awards in Canmore.

In the Nominated Awards category CSSA accepted 2 awards.

These Awards recognized outstanding accomplishments by Albertans at the Provincial, National or International levels. 

Werner Meyer recipient of the:

         Mike Heitman Memorial Award.

This award is presented to an AASSA volunteer who has been outstanding in his or her contributions towards the sport of        speed skating in the province of Alberta, has demonstrated long term commitment and is/was involved in AASSA activities.

Sam Pollock recipient of the:

         Bruce Jones Memorial Award.

This award is presented to a short track skater who best exemplifies;

scholastic achievement                 perseverance                  sportsmanship

athletic achievement                     positive attitude               positive self-image

dedication                                      enthusiasm                      positive role model

Bruce Jones was an accomplished skater and excellent student when he passed away during a training ride. The award was established to help skaters who are involved in post-secondary education.

 In the Result Based Awards, CSSA accepted 2 other awards.

 These awards are determined based on the results as tabulated by the using the AASSA/SSC National Rankings lists, ISU results and other relevant meet protocols.

Meet us at Edworthy Park (south parking lot) at 6:30pm on Monday, May 4 with Brock (guest coach for the evening) or Wednesday, May 6 with Kerry (awesome!). They will be leading a FREE dryland session each day. Plan to stay until 7:30pm.


Make sure you register for the spring dryland session (and our other programs and sessions) as spots fill up FAST ! Spring Programs start May 11.

Our Dryland program is ready to bring our athletes to the next levels!!”
